Starting my Final Major Project

(Sorry I havent posted anything on here for a while)
So for my final major project I have decided to paint portraits. The title of the unit will be "Painting the Famous". The idea is to end up with half a dozen portrait of famous people who I find interesting and inspiring.

This is my first idea which is a portrait of the famous film director Tim Burton along with a handful of his amazing creations. The first challenge was the colour scheme which I wanted to keep dark and gothic like his movies so I decided to prime the canvas with black before I started the portrait. It started out as a simple portrait which was only meant to be a practice for when I do it on a larger scale but I decided to take it further by adding charectors from his films which I think worked out quite well.

Acrylic on canvas (size is roughly A3)
It took me about 4 days to paint

Im really glad with how this turned out and I am looking forward to starting my next portrait which I have yet to decide apon

Philippe Halsman and Salvador Dali "Three Flying Cats"

Salvador DalĂ and Three Flying Cats  This Idea of the three cats flying through the air wasn't Salvador's first idea. He initially wanted to blow up a duck using Dynamite which sounds like a crazy idea and I don't think it would've been as successful as this one. It goes to show how Dali's mind works, this is what makes him so unique in the way he works. In a strange way, I would've liked to have seen his original idea, even though it would have unsettled me.  The amount of work put into this one image is pretty amazing. the amount of tries to get the image just right is admirable, especially in an age where digital editing doesn't exists. Looking at the behind the scenes photos was very interesting. You can make out the assistant holding up a chair and you can see the failed attempts at getting the cats to look right as they are thrown into the air.  The type of work that I do today would be almost impossible back then, unless I do it manually and p...

Landscape Paintings report

For this report, we are to choose two paintings with a different style and respond to them and compare. I have chosen work by John Constable and Casper David Friedrich. I am very familiar with John Constable's work as I have admired it for years. He is an inspiration to me in regards to painting landscapes and I strive to be as detailed as him one day. I feel like I need to learn more about the media and understand what media is best for what I want to do. Wanderer above the Sea of Fog (1818) – Caspar David Friedrich Oil on Canvas Casper David Friedrich is another artist who I think about a lot. He is a fantastic landscape painter from the 19th century  who was part of the German Romantic movement and is considered as one of the most important painters of that time. I chose to talk about this painting mainly because of the feeling I get when I look at it. It gives me a great sense of freedom and peace which I love. It makes me wish that I was the one standing on top of the...

Tommy Ingberg Surreal Photography

I"m not that familiar with Tommy Ingberg but recently I have dived into the world of Surrealism with my photography. What I like about surrealism is the idea of creating something that no one has seen before or even thought of. I want to shock people and create a sense of wonder at the same time. After reading up on Tommy's I found a similarity between me and him. He got decent grades in school and he went on to start a safe non-challenging normal life with a boring job. He only did photography as a hobby just like me with my drawing. I didn't get any satisfaction from doing this as I was being told what to create. I can image that this would feel similar to him in this situation. Once I started college again I felt more free to do what I want and pursue the styles I wanted without being held back. Tommy's photo's transport me to this dream like world where I want to keep exploring. The level of surrealism here is something I hope to achieve myself. you real...
